FAQs
How quickly can you respond to a call for explosive detection
canine teams?
We can usually be on post with at least two highly experienced
teams anywhere in the United States with a 24-hour notice.
Are your dogs aggressive towards people?
No. Most of our work is done around the public. We select dogs
that are sociable towards people.
Why do dogs look for bombs?
The dogs are taught to associate the smell of explosives with
something the dog likes to play with. When he detects the
explosive smell he thinks he has found his toy and if he sits down
he will be given his toy. It is not actually this simple
but this is basically how the detection process begins. There
are many factors that can affect this process and that is why the
professional handler is so important.
How far away from a bomb can a dog smell it?
I had a dog of mine to detect an explosive odor from nearly 200
yards away. He showed a change of behavior and took the handler
across two parking lots to get to the source. There was a
wind blowing that day and it blew the odor to the dog.
